Hispanic Heritage Month Employee Spotlight: Dina De La Rocha

Tell us a little bit about your background and the work you do at Triller
My name is Dina De La Rocha, I’m the Director of Community & Talent Growth at Triller. I’m working remotely in Dallas, TX and I’m a first-generation Mexican American.

I come from a music/talent background of 20+ years — from my first job at a music store to working at iHeart Radio as a DJ and Imaging Director at KEGL 97.1 The Eagle in Dallas and KDMX Mix 102.9. I also scouted rock/metal bands and worked with labels to help promote their releases and sign new talent.

I then went on to The Walt Disney Company to join the team at Radio Disney where I worked with talent for 15 years. I worked alongside amazing talent such as Alex Aiono, Jenna Ortega, Alli Simpson, Jenna Raine, Emilia Tosta, Noah Schnacky, Zendaya & many more. I also was an early ambassador for online creators (Brent Rivera, Lele Pons, Rudy Mancuso, Anwar Jibawi, among others) to incorporate into the Walt Disney Company for opportunities at Radio Disney, Disney Channel, Disney Parks, Disney Cruise Line, etc. I also was an announcer for eight years on various Disney Channel promos and awards shows on television.

Now at Triller, I continue to look for those diamonds in social media that I can support their journey in the social space.

Favorite Latin music/artist?
My favorite Latin artist currently is Sofia Reyes but I will always love Selena Quintanilla. I know pretty much all the lyrics to her music.

What kind of influence does your heritage have on the work that you do / your career?
My parents and grandparents are my heroes. I know how they sacrificed and struggled for their families. They instilled the value of hard work and loyalty, something that I am proud of when I approach any role in my career.

How do you celebrate your culture?
Definitely with food, making it for loved ones. I love introducing my boyfriend JC to the foods I grew up with. Also the music — I grew up surrounded by some amazing types of Latin artists and styles, Cumbias being my favorite.

What is one thing you want the world to know, acknowledge, or understand about the Hispanic community?
There is an instant connection for me when I speak Spanish and especially when you hear others celebrate our culture, from the food to the music. I truly enjoy sharing recipes and showing people how to make their own tortillas and mole to share with their loved ones.

How can we most authentically celebrate Hispanic Heritage month?
Learn more about your culture and history and those of others. Find common ground and celebrate our differences.

What advice would you give to young Hispanic/LatinX individuals?
I was told when I started in entertainment that “no one would hire a Mexican woman to do the job you want.” I believe that hard work, respecting others around you, and doing the best in your role to assist your company, co-workers and those you interact with goes a long way. Become indispensable, and this advice is for not just Hispanics, but every person. Do what you love. If you aren’t being challenged in your work or growing in a role, then look for your next adventure that gets you excited to come in each day. Life is really too short to be unhappy. And finally, never be afraid to share the skills you’ve learned to teach others. Pay it forward.
